THE PERSON BEHIND THE INTRODUCTIONS

I'm Shay.
Let's make dating feel human again.

For more than seven years, my work as a coach and counsellor has centred on listening to people, understanding their experiences, and helping them make sense of what they need from themselves and their relationships.

Over time, that work—alongside my own experiences navigating dating apps and life beyond them, and successfully introducing friends who went on to build relationships—sparked a new interest: matchmaking.

Hush grew from a simple question: what if finding a partner involved more care, curiosity and human judgment, and less endless scrolling?

WHY I BUILT THIS

We have more ways to connect than ever.
So why can connection feel so far away?

Dating apps can introduce us to people we might never meet in everyday life. But the swipe-first experience can also turn something deeply human into a fast-moving catalogue: quick judgements, repetitive small talk, and conversations that fade before either person has had the chance to show who they really are.

Many people looking for a serious relationship tell us they're tired of answering the same surface-level questions, repeating their favourite colour or weekend activity, and trying to make a genuine connection through one-word replies. Endless choice can become exhausting rather than empowering.

There is no single reason people use dating apps, and we don't assume we know someone's intentions from a profile. Some people want a casual connection, some are exploring, and others are ready to build a committed partnership. The difficulty is that these intentions do not always line up—and a profile alone may not reveal the difference.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SWIPE

Designed for engagement
isn't always designed for connection.

Some dating-app mechanics can keep people engaged even when they're not helping them build the relationship they want. These are patterns to be aware of—not proof that every app, or every person using one, is manipulative.

01 · VARIABLE REWARDS

The maybe-next swipe

When a reward is unpredictable—a match, a message, a like—people may keep checking in because the next interaction could feel exciting. This variable-reward pattern is familiar from behavioural psychology and can encourage repeated use.

02 · CHOICE OVERLOAD

More options, less focus

A seemingly endless stream of profiles can make it harder to slow down, compare thoughtfully, or invest in one conversation. More options do not automatically translate into better decisions or deeper compatibility.

03 · GAMIFICATION & LOW-EFFORT CHAT

Attention replaces intention

Swiping, likes and quick-fire prompts can reward activity more visibly than curiosity or follow-through. When conversation stays at the level of repeated small talk, people seeking depth can feel as if they're doing all the emotional work.

These dynamics can affect people differently. They don't mean that everyone on an app is dishonest, emotionally unavailable or looking for something casual. They do help explain why a person who genuinely wants a relationship can still feel overwhelmed by the process.

WHO WE'RE HERE FOR

For the intentional ones.

Hush is for people who are ready to approach dating with purpose: people who want to be understood beyond a handful of photos, who value thoughtful conversation, and who are willing to be clear about what they want.

Our approach begins with a real consultation, not a stream of repetitive prompts. We learn about your values, lifestyle, relationship goals and preferences, then curate introductions with care. Where location and circumstances allow, our matchmakers may also meet members in person to get to know the person behind the profile. We welcome people of all genders and backgrounds, including those open to interracial, long-distance and transcontinental relationships.

We cannot promise perfect compatibility or guarantee another person's intentions. What we can offer is a more personal process, considered introductions and communication throughout the search.

We are not here to make you swipe more. We are here to help you meet with intention.
